Sucker Brook Failure

**Failure of the diversionary waterway at the Sucker Brook flood control dam**

After recent heavy rain it was discovered that there was a significant failure of the diversionary waterway at the Sucker Brook flood control dam at the southwest section of third bay. Excessive amounts of silt have already flowed into the lake causing brownish cloudy water throughout most of third bay.

The HLWA Board of Directors met with Mayor Candy Perez and State Representative Jay Case to gather as much information as possible for our membership and to express our concern about the environmental impact on the lake.

Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is now actively engaged in assessing the situation and exploring immediate options to prevent further erosion and find long-term solutions. DEEP is extremely concerned about safely as the area is very unstable. Please stay clear of this area and allow them to do the necessary work.

The HLWA Board will continue to monitor developments and keep you updated via this website.
