Golden Gala

Golden Gala

by Terry Platt

Saturday, January 24, was the day of the HLWA 50th Anniversary Golden Gala dinner/dance, and everything was just perfect. The weather was quite cooperative, though cold, and everything came together just right. We had a nice crowd, about 100 people, and everyone spent a good part of the night visiting with one another. It was so good to see people we haven’t seen for a while as well as those we see all the time! The tables and room were decorated so beautifully—the room just glowed with the gold accents and a lot of sparkly clothes!

Every guest received a special wine glass—they were similar to the normal HLWA wine glasses sold with the logo of the lake on the side, but it was in gold, not blue, and the 50th anniversary logo was in gold on the other side. But they weren’t presented as just wineglasses—they were filled with gold-covered candy and gold confetti!

The local businesses were generous as usual, donating items for our raffle. We also had quite a selection of silent auction gifts as well—three pictures by local artists, a Highland Lake clock, a framed aerial panoramic photo of the lake, a basket of items from Friends of Main Street, and a basket of wines and glasses.

Music was again provided by KeBar, and our lake group loves to dance! The floor was filled with many happy feet! We had several varieties of hors d’oeuvres passed around before sitting down to a scrumptious sit-down dinner—a choice of prime rib, salmon, chicken or pasta—along with a delicious salad and dessert. We had a cash bar, and I found a wonderful chocolate martini that kept me happy!

Many found it hard to leave as they were having so much fun. Thanks to Pat Masucci and Lynn Brandolini and the rest of Membership Services for a fantastic night.
